Google launches scent database - WXOW.com

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—Google rolled out a new technology Google Nose on April 1.

Google said Nose  technology allows you to go beyond type, talk and touch; it allows you to use another sense, your nose.

Nose is an aroma base of 15 million scentibytes.”

“In the fast paced world we live in, we don’t always have time to stop and smell the roses,” Google said. “Now with Google Nose Beta, the roses are just a click away.”

“I saw it on Facebook this morning,” Margaret Smith said.

You can type in a smell and it will transmit the scent through your computer.

“Are you serious?” Nayla Cox said.

“No, I don’t smell anything,” Doug Vance said.

“Oh my god it actually smells like garlic,” Cox said.

“How am I going to smell it? Can you smell it? No I can’t smell it,” Unis said.

What does the printer paper smell like?

“Like paper, only fresh,” Lexis Acklin said.

But wait, how does it work?

“By intersecting photons with infrasound waves Google Nose Beta temporarily aligns molecules to emulate a particular scent,” Google said.

“Yeah it seems possible with the right hardware,” Vance said.

“Actually I think it’s pretty cool,” Cox said. “You wouldn’t have to just sit there and wonder what it smells like you just have to go online. I think it’s a real improvement for technology.”

The best scent in their data base is April Fool’s Day.  Google launched the new web site as an April Fool’s Day prank.

“I think that’s a pretty good joke,” Smith said. “It would be neat if they actually had something like that.”
