Montreal Canadiens forward Lars Eller was taken off the ice on a stretcher after a devastating hit on Thursday night.
A pass from defenseman Raphael Diaz was slightly behind Eller, and Ottawa Senators defenseman Eric Gryba stepped up and hit him.

Eller spun around and fell face first onto the ice and was bleeding profusely.
“Lars Eller suffered a head and facial injury,” the team said. “He is conscious and alert. He has been taken to the hospital for further examination and will remain under observation.”
It’s hard to tell from the video, even from multiple angles, whether Gryba made direct contact with Eller’s head.
Gryba was given an interference major and ejected
Here is video. Warning: It is graphic.
